She is a signature member and five-year Merit Award recipient of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA), a member of the Metro-Washington Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society, and a member of Maryland Federation of Art. Mary Ellen holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University and spent over twenty-five years teaching art to elementary and middle school students in the Washington D.C. region. Mary Ellen’s current work focuses on contemporary still life drawings. She poses objects to create “connections”. Many of her pieces are biographical...featuring collections of objects that seek to create a “portrait” of a person. Strong color and lighting help to contribute to a photorealistic effect.

Mary Ellen’s work has been published in “CP Treasures, Colored Pencil Masterworks from around the Globe, Vol IV and Vol V, Ann Kullberg (2016, 2017).

Her award-winning work has been juried into numerous regional, national, and international exhibitions, and is included in private collections across the U.S. and abroad.
